Undergraduate Programming

At the NORM 2012 meeting, an undergraduate program will be hosted by the Boise State University Student Affiliates Chapter, in conjunction with the College of Idaho Chemistry Club. The NORM 2012 meeting is co-located with the American Association for the Advancement of Science-Pacific Division regional meeting. Thus, there will be opportunities for students to interact with undergraduates, academicians, professionals from numerous scientific disciplines. An overview of the undergraduate activities is as follows.


SUNDAY, JUNE 24

7:30 pm – 10:00 pm - “Liquid Nitrogen” Ice cream Social and Dessert Reception
Make your own ice cream and join in the opening night reception and activities.


MONDAY, JUNE 25

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm - Undergraduate Poster Session
Undergraduates will have the opportunity to present their current research and interact with professionals from both the American Chemical Society and the Pacific Division of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

6:00 – 10:00 pm - Pizza, Bowling and Pool
Come enjoy pizza, bowling and pool at the Boise State University Student Union Building. This event is free and open to all undergraduates. Please meet at the Grove Entrance of the Boise Centre Convention Center at 5:30 pm if you are interested. This activity will require a short walk from the Boise Centre to the Boise State University Student Union.


TUESDAY, JUNE 26

7:30 am – 9:00 am – Breakfast with Keynote Speaker
(For undergraduates only, no charge, pre-registration required)
Have breakfast with and hear from Paul Rothemund, Senior Research Associate at Caltech. Dr. Rothemund is a winner of the Feynman Prize for Nanotechnology, the World Technology Award for Biotechnology, and a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. Dr. Rothemund will speak about life as a researcher, surviving graduate school, and additional information important to undergraduates who are beginning their scientific career.

12:00 pm – 1:30 pm - Graduate School Recruitment Luncheon
(For undergraduates only, no charge, pre-registration required)
Participants will have the opportunity to talk with graduate school recruiters one on one while enjoying lunch.

2:00 pm – 5:00 pm - Micron plant tour
(For undergraduates only, no charge, pre-registration required, limited to first 20 registrants)
Students will enjoy a special tour specifically for undergraduates at the local Micron manufacturing facility (pre-registration required).
